Manage Virtual Machine in Virt Manager.

Prerequisites:

> CentOS 6.x / RHEL 6.x Bit 64 installed on Server
> Desktop X ( Gnome / Kde ) enabled in linux server.
> Make sure all KVM packages are installed in linux server


Virtual Machine Details:


> Open Virtual Machine Manager in Gnome / KDE Desktop.


> Select any Power On or Power Off virtual machine and than go to Edit and select Virtual Machine Details.




> Click on Console ikon to view virtual machine screen. In the following diagram I have marked console ikon in yellow color.




> Click on i button to view virtual machine details and add new Hardware in virtual machine.
Following screenshot display the hardware information of "cent-new" virtual machine. We can also edit the virtual machine name and change the settings of virtual machine here.
 

Basic Function of Virtual Machine:

> Pause running virtual machine.
In Virtual Machine Manager click on II Pause button. This function will hibernate virtual machine.
Pause state virtual machine resume on the current state any time.


> Power On Virtual Machine
Select Power off virtual machine in Virtual Machine Manager and click on Play button to power on virtual machine.
I have marked Play button in Yellow color in the following screenshot.


 Once the virtual machine is powered on Running status will display in Virtual Machine Manager.


> Shut Down Virtual Machine.
Select running virtual machine which you want to be shutdown. Click on down arrow next to power On / Off button and in the menu select Shut Down option.
Shut Down function send the command to operating system to stop all the services of Operating system first.
This is the method of soft Shut Down.


> Power Off Virtual Machine.
This is the method of Forcefully power off the virtual machine. Force Off option directly switch off the virtual machine and bypass Operating system shutdown process.
In the down menu select Force Off option to switch off running virtual machine.

Note: Force Off option might be damage operating system of virtual machine. Use this function only if virtual machine Os is in hang state and not responding shutdown option.


Reboot Virtual Machine.
 Select running virtual machine and click on the option in down menu Reboot to restart virtual machine on operating system level. This is also called cold reboot the machine.



> Save Virtual Machine.
Select Save option from down menu to save the current state of virtual machine. We can restore virtual machine any time from save state.



> Clone Virtual Machine. ( Create duplicate virtual machine )
Right click to Shutoff virtual machine which wants to clone, Select Clone...
option.


Specify Name to new virtual machine and select storage where you want to store the virtual machine. Click on Clone button to continue.


Cloning is started now.


Once the cloning is done you will find new virtual machine ( Exact copy of original virtual machine ) in Virtual Machine Manager.
